How to: Compress only a portion of a drive or disk.
Solution:
Select 'Create Empty...' from the 'Advanced' menu in 'DriveSpace' and indicate the amount of free space to be used for the new drive.
NOTE 1: The DriveSpace utility should be used only by experienced computer users.
NOTE 2: The following procedure cannot be used with a floppy diskette or a FAT 32 drive.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the Windows 'Start' menu.
Select 'Programs'
2) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'.

3) Select the 'System Tools' menu and select 'DriveSpace'. (The 'Drive Space' dialog box appears.)

4) Select the drive to compress from the 'Drives on this computer' list box.
5) Select the 'Advanced' menu and select 'Create Empty...'. (The 'Create New Compressed Drive' dialog box appears.)

6) Type the amount of free space to be used for the new drive in the 'Using' box.

7) Select the drive containing the free space to be used for the new drive from the 'of free space on' drop-down list box.
8) (Optional) Type the amount of free space the new drive will have in 'The new drive will contain about' box.
NOTE: The amount of free space that is automatically adjusted in the 'Using' box.
9) Click 'Start'.
10) (Special Case) The 'Create Startup Disk' dialog box may appear at this point. To continue without creating or updating a Windows 95 startup disk, click 'No'. (When compression is complete, the 'Create New Compressed Drive' dialog box reappears with a message confirming the creation of a new drive.)
11) Click 'Close' to close the 'Create New Compressed Drive' dialog box.
12) Select the 'Disk' menu and select 'Exit' to close the 'DriveSpace 3' dialog box. (The 'Restart Computer' dialog box appears.)
13) Click 'Yes' to restart your computer with the new disk settings.
